CUBE Boutique Capsule Hotels, a homegrown brand, has recently added a fourth property to its portfolio in Singapore. Located at the top two floors of shophouses at 70/71/72 Boat Quay, the new hotel, called CUBE Social @ Boat Quay, introduces a family-friendly concept. The property is owned and managed by AM Real Estate.

Founded in 2016 by husband-and-wife duo Benedict Choa and Sonia Anya Tay, CUBE Boutique Capsule Hotels owns three other properties in Singapore – Capsule @ Kampong Glam, Capsule @ Smith Street, and Family @ Chinatown.

CUBE Social @ Boat Quay boasts 72 capsule beds, with a mix of queen and single options, as well as 13 private rooms designed for families ranging from 118 to 323 sq ft. The capsule hotel also has a separate section with 20 beds exclusively for women, catering to female travelers who value privacy.

According to Mohd K Rafin, CEO of CUBE Hospitality, while capsule hotels are not a new concept, the CUBE brand offers premium accommodation and services with a strong emphasis on design and guest experiences. This approach goes beyond providing a place to stay, but also creating a unique experience and a sense of community. Some of the amenities offered at CUBE Social @ Boat Quay include a bar lounge and outdoor seating areas with views of the Singapore River, Civic District, and CBD. The property also features a private soundproof telephone booth for guests.

Since its opening last November, the new hotel has attracted a diverse mix of guests, from tech-savvy youths to business owners and entrepreneurs who appreciate the opportunity to network. The affordable prices, central location, and chance to interact with like-minded individuals are some of the main draws for guests, says Rafin.

Integrating technology is also a key aspect of the new capsule hotel. Features such as digital keys and online communication platforms like Telegram are used to foster communication between staff and guests. As a veteran in the hospitality industry, Rafin strongly believes in the need for innovation to keep up with changing consumer trends and preferences.

Sonia Anya, COO and co-founder of CUBE Boutique Capsule Hotels, explains that the inspiration for providing premium capsule accommodation came from her personal experiences and business acumen. Her stay at the Marriott Hotel in New York City played a significant role in shaping her vision of CUBE Boutique Capsule Hotels. Seeing the high property prices and rising hotel rates in Singapore, especially in heritage areas, she saw an opportunity to offer affordable accommodation without compromising on quality. Essential amenities such as high-speed Wi-Fi, sound insulation, and eco-friendly toiletries are provided in all CUBE properties. The boutique capsule hotel also offers an amenity bar with complimentary items like slippers, combs, face towels, and eye masks.

Priced at around $85 per night, CUBE Social @ Boat Quay caters to “on-the-go” travelers who spend most of their time exploring the city. Guests appreciate the premium accommodation, safety, cleanliness, and vibrant community-oriented atmosphere in the shared spaces, says Tay.

Apart from its capsule hotel brand, CUBE also has a family-centric concept called CUBE Family Boutique Capsule and their latest product, CUBE Social, catering to those looking for a social experience. Each CUBE property, situated in different historical areas in Singapore, reflects the company’s vision of experiential tourism. Tay explains that they prioritize location to allow guests to immerse themselves in the local culture and community.

Moving forward, the company aims to refine its business model in Singapore while expanding in the region. With a high occupancy rate of around 90% across all four properties since the opening of CUBE Social @ Boat Quay, Tay is confident in the local market. They plan to open two new locations later this year and eventually expand to popular destinations like Bali, Vietnam, and Hong Kong in the next few years. To achieve this goal, CUBE is open to strategic partnerships for franchising or joint ventures with owners of heritage shophouses or buildings in prime locations. Rafin adds that their ultimate goal is to unlock the potential of these iconic properties through asset enhancement, both locally and internationally.
