Calvin Phua Appointed Chief Executive Sla
COVIT-19: Prime land tenders could see bids affectedTGP thrives during pandemic as it eyes more opportunities Calvin Phua will be assuming the role of chief executive at the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) from May 1, announced the Ministry of Law (MinLaw) in a press release on April 2. In the meantime, Phua will continue serving as the MinLaw’s deputy secretary (policy).
During his tenure at MinLaw, Phua spearheaded efforts to enhance Singapore’s legal system and facilitate access to justice. He played a key role in establishing the Public Defender’s Office, and was instrumental in implementing legal frameworks to aid businesses and individuals affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Phua has previously held other positions in the public sector, including Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Transport.
Phua takes over the reins from Colin Low, who has been SLA’s chief executive since 2011.
“We are grateful for Colin’s invaluable contributions to SLA,” says Luke Goh, permanent secretary of MinLaw. “Under his leadership, SLA has introduced innovative measures to enable efficient and creative adaptive reuse of State land, in line with SLA’s vision of ‘Limited Land. Unlimited Space’.”
Goh continues, “We look forward to working closely with Calvin in his new capacity as the chief executive of SLA and are confident that he will continue building on Colin’s achievements, driving SLA towards even greater heights.”
